Barberton

This neighbouring town which features many reminders of the early gold-rush era, is now easily accessible via a fully upgraded road which is much enjoyed by motorists, bikers and cyclists who love the thrill of the corners. An annual Diggers’ Festival is held in September.

Barberton is also famous for its world heritage site, the Makhonjwa Mountains. A small beautiful range of mountains also referred to as “The Genesis of Life” as despite being 3, 5 million years old, it faithfully records the earliest life forms on earth as well as provides evidence of the first recorded massive meteorite impact.
It is here too that the only known deposits of verdite in the world are found. http://www.barberton.co.za/
